Cockle Mill 10 School Brae Cramond EDINBURGH EH4 6JN Located 4 miles from Edinburgh Airport (approx 15 mins.) Located 5 miles to city centre of Edinburgh (buses every 15 mins approx 20 mins) Cramond is beatufully situated on the River Almond with its natural Harbour and the Firth of Forth The oldest settlement in Scotland dating from Ad 139 when the Romans invaded Scotland a second time They decided to establish a fort to act as a supply port for their army to protect the southern shore. They enlisted 500 men and their fort spread over 6 acres of land in Cramond. Cramond was an important Industrial centre in the 1700s and 1800s by 1799 the village had 3 iron forges and 3 water powered mills producing steel which was exported as far away as India. Markets changed and the mills changed to pulp |Mills in the 1800s. Today it’s a lovely place to visit its kept all its charm and is a well kept secret gem.
